A moment's association is a most precious gift...
To open the eyes, warm the heart, and enliven the soul.

Gold Glitters and is Fickle

New Zealanders commonly say, "Good as Gold." It is interesting that goodness is so nonchalantly equated with gold.
In an interesting twist on the importance of money, Srila Prabhupada has interestingly pointed out how worthless money actually is. He told us that one who has a lot of money feels that the money is his most prized possession, and his dearest friend. Yet that very same money, if lost and in the hands of the man's competitor, can be the very same man's worst and most hated and feared enemy.

Charlatans Abound These Days

Addressing the bewildering thicket of fakes that sincere seekers often encounter, we can quote Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati from his will: "To be cheated by those who mislead people in the name of Hari katha, has become a sort of religion of this age."

"Free Will and Predestination"

Although this topic can be discussed at great length, one nice explanation was recently discovered and written about by Bhayahari dasa, a Washington, D.C. area devotee. He reiterates sastric evidence that compares the agriculturist, the rains and time. In order for grains to manifest and become harvestable and edible, the farmer has to sow seeds. Then there has to be rain, and lastly time must elapse in order for the grain to manifest. The planting can be compared to free will, and the rain to destiny.

What is Culture?

Obviously Srila Prabhupada respected culture and used it to propagate ISKCON. He used the food culture, the hospitality culture, the fine art culture, dance culture, drama culture, arts culture, architectural culture, festival culture, interior design culture, clothing and fashion culture to spread the Krishna consciousness culture. But he said that REAL culture is the ?upliftment?

"What is 'Acquired Knowledge' "

Sometimes devotees think that Krsna will reveal EVERYTHING from within: things such as how to use computers, construction of buildings, cooking, producing books, keeping accounts, making music, and decorating temples. This ignores the principle of "God helps those that help themselves," or that "man proposes; God disposes." If we don't attempt or propose [act] why should Krsna do everything for us. Arjuna had to utilize military science to fight. He had to strain his brain and his muscle to the maximum.

Our "only desire" should be

In his Last Will and Testament, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura said, "Our only desire is to collect the dust from the lotus feet of Sri Rupa Goswami, who fulfilled the desire of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu."

Diplomacy

Diplomacy CAN be used for Krishna, but don't try it unless you're expert and there's a good reason for it. "The conclusion is that diplomacy used for the service of the Lord is a form of devotional service." (Caitanya Caritamrta, Madhya-lila, Chapter twelve, verse 44, purport).

Real shelter is not in the comfort zone

In his Will, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura writes: "Due to the association of non-devotees one gets material prosperity, and due to the association of devotees the spirit soul gradually becomes absorbed in serving Sri Hari.

Relationship Consciousness

Henry Ford is said to have expressed the tenet that it would be easy to hire employees that could manage money, simple to find people who could handle finances, but extremely difficult to locate assistants who could deal with people. In his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 3.29.17, Srila Prabhupada writes: "Friendship should be cemented between persons with mutual interests and understanding."

Gallons of Blood

On many occasions we have heard our Srila Prabhupada speak of spending gallons of blood to preach. This is how Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami once used the phrase: "Unless hundreds of gallons of hard earned blood is spent we will not be able to make people understand this truth."
