Maha-Visnu

The expert swimmer lies on his or her back in the water and enjoys the
sensation. This gives us a glimpse into how Maha-Visnu feels as he
reclines in His yoga-nidra mystic slumber generating billions of universes through his breach and pores.

Angles of Vision

Krsna consciousness is multi-faceted. Srila Prabhupada has used the
phrase, "angle of vision" many times. Even material truth is
many-sided. It is said there are at least two sides to every issue, and
another maxim says that the pursuit of truth is like picking
raspberries. You miss a lot if you approach from only one angle. Srila
Prabhupada wanted us to approach Krsna consciousness with an open mind.
Krsna is the ultimate Truth, so this truth has an infinite number of
facets. Being 'independently thoughtful' doesn't mean joining the 'herd

Forgotten Bodies

One way to help us realize "I am not this body" is to remember that
forgetfulness generally happens when we change bodies. Actually the body is
constantly changing, so we're constantly forgetting. But the reason we can't
remember past lives is because we have completely changed bodies.

A great
way to explain this is as follows. When I dream vividly, I think it's real.
Therefore I am totally forgetting that I'm the body lying in the
bed.

Near death experiences and other out of body experiences are also

Abortion

It's been said that those who perform abortions will have to be aborted in
the womb again and again. Srila Prabhupada says this in a poignant way: "He dies
within the womb, again transferred to another womb, and again it is
killed.

So those who are too much sinful, those who are causing these
abortions, they will get this sort of life. They will never see light. One womb,
killed; another womb, killed; another womb, killed; another womb,
killed.

This is so sinful, this abortion. And the modern civilization and

Just A Pinch

Thought For the Day

If there is even "a pinch" (Srila Prabhupada's expression) of material
desire, one cannot attain the spiritual world. Here's what Srila Prabhupada said
about this in LA on 26 May 1972:
"This is significant. Those who are Krsna
conscious, they have no material desires. Finished. Brahmany upasamasrayam.
Upasama, upasama means completely finished, don't want. They can worship the
Supreme Personality of Godhead. Otherwise, without being akama ... Akama means
no material desires. Anyabhilasita-sunyam [BRS.1.1.11], completely. If

Choose Your Association Carefully

The fourth verse of Upadesamrita,

"dadati pratigrhnati, guhyam
akhyati prcchati, bhunkte bhojayate caiva, sad-vidham
priti-laksanam

(Offering gifts in charity, accepting charitable
gifts, revealing one's mind in confidence, inquiring confidentially, accepting
prasada and offering prasada are the six symptoms of love shared by one devotee
and another)" is meant for devotees. Revealing one's mind is meant for
devotees, and those to whom we reveal our minds is also meant for devotees.

Influence

The influence of the age is so pervasive that even Krsna's own peers
suspected him 10. 57.41: "After the almighty Lord had shown the Syamantaka jewel
to His relatives, thus dispelling the false accusations against Him, He returned
it to Akrura."

PURPORT
For the second time, doubts about the Lord's
reputation occasioned by the Syamantaka jewel are dispelled by the jewel itself.
Indeed, for the second time the Lord brought the jewel to Dvaraka to establish
His integrity there. This amazing series of incidents demonstrates that even

Death is at Your Door

It helps us remember the fragility of life when we realize that every time we
drive a car we're wielding a lethal weapon. A ten-inch wide painted line is
often all that separates us from oncoming cars. When we drive on these kinds of
roads we are only a few feet away from death. Padam padam yat vipadam ne
tesam.

Education's Challenge

Education always involves some guesswork, because we rarely know the full
propensities of any child in the early years, what to speak of the future and
how to prepare for it. This is a challenge for all Krishna consciousness
educators. The best scenario is to maintain traditions, yet ensure our systems
are always sensitive to time, place, and circumstance, and prioritize preaching
as frontline work, thus keeping compassion and our mission as the
yardsticks.

Affairs of the Heart

Through Srimad Bhagavatam and Caitanya Caritamrita we find reference to the
"heart" or hrdaya. In these references the heart is far from a central bodily
organ that pumps blood to the rest of human body. These 'affairs of the heart'
are addressed thousands of times in the Vedic literature in a very thorough way
- a way that comprehends feelings, emotions, psychology, viewpoints and visions.
This concept of the heart is more like a vision. It's a deep set of feelings
that can be material or spiritual. When the heart becomes attached to Krsna we
